Hazelwood Residents’ Association of Acocks Green decided that it needed a project to focus their community spirit.

What could be a better focus than entering the Small Neighbourhood Award category in the Britain in Bloom competition.

We decided to introduce a country lane look back into this road.  We have planted cottage garden plants which will, hopefully, billow out and give it a soft look, so much lacking in our concrete jungles.

We have a Noticeboard made by a resident and the same man will produce a metal sculpture to stand at the Fox Hollies end of the road.  He and another resident, whose work is in wood, have made planters to adorn our street signs.

This community spirited project has brought people together planting, giving and caring for plants and taking pride in the road.  Neighbours are helping residents who are unable to garden.  Every weekend people are out gardening in the road.

Hazelwood Residents’ Association has been established for 35 years and during this time has raised lots of money for charities including Warren Pearl and St Mary’s Hospice, the Red Cross and other cancer charities of our residents’ choice.
