Road Information June 2008
We were visited by a member of Birmingham City Council Highways regarding their offer of a new bench which they have sited at the Fox Hollies end of Hazelwood Road and which has drawn a few comments. We think people are worried that it may attract the wrong type of loiterers. Fran suggested that we put up a sign saying "No sitting, no graffiti, no bonking, no rubbish to be carried on around this bench". Gavin suggested we put up a notice saying "This is not a bench". However the Highways Department has sited it where it really is out of the way and there is room for it. It is being trialled for 3 months and should we fell it attracts the wrong type of people, we will ask for it to be removed. As well as a bench, we were also awarded two beautiful black metal planters which again we only have room for at teh Fox Hollies end and which will give that entrance a nice feel to it.
Another important issue which we raised and was taken up vociferously by our chairman Jeff was the state of the pavements and I know lots of us, particularly Jeff, have taken the City Council to task on this issue over the last few years. We we re told it would be looked into to see if anything could be done more quickly than the normal schedule of maintenance. Since writing this, some repair work has started - so well doen Jeff!
