When	The Plan
June 2012 The Queen's Diamond Jubilee	By popular demand this event is being marked by our Residents' Association. This will be in the form of a fete or Street Party. This format proved very popular for the recent Royal Wedding with over 80 people in attendance. As it hopefully will involve people of all ages, we need some ideas and will be asking for people to bring food. Contact as above. We have ideas for this event to make it go with a swing. A fancy dress for kids and grown ups with prizes to be awarded for the best dressed. You could put a crown on and come as the Queen or dress up as Britannia as in the Last Night of the Proms. We think we should have some dancing teams e.g. Morris dancing or English Folk Dancing. There will also be music and games and a quiz about the Queen - you had all better swat up. Also suggested is a bake-off type cake competition. Get baking. Entrance free if you bring food or a nominal entrance of 50p if you don't.

Friday 16^th March Beer and Skittles, Fleur de Lys pub at Lowsonford	This activity has proved very popular in the past. We will hire some transport and go to this delightful venue where a skittles alley will be provided free of charge. We are expected to eat and they have a special of a pie and a pud at £10 but for those on a diet, you can have a starter for less than £5. Friday 17^th February 7.15 pm The Scouts Gang Show	The Scouts Gang show is on at the Crescent Theatre. Bob Hudson who mucks in at all our community events has been involved with the Scout movement for 60 years. Ralph Reader created this event in 1932 and in his words 'you can't go wrong with a song and the sound of voices.' It is a well organised, slick run of sketches, song and dance from youngsters and some older people that will set feet tapping as well as evoking a tear or two. The movement also has girl members. Come along and support this wonderful movement and the show participants who will have worked very hard to rehearse despite their studies. Saturday 2nd July Acocks Green Carnival	This year we are having a stall in the park to show the arts, crafts and talents of the people of the Hazelwood Area. Exhibit your paintings, pottery, sculpture and general craftwork here or sell plants and general items. The stall costs £30 and we are therefore looking for a donation from those people who exhibit.

Friday 29^th April	A day to remember when our future King gets married. Something we may not experience again in the near future. We are holding a 'street meet' for our residents jelly, blancmange and trifle for the kids and food and drinks for the adults. We envisage starting at 3 p.m. to give us the opportunity of seeing the major event on the television. We'll have tables laid out as in a street party but it will be held in The Willows. If you can help or contribute, let us know urgently. Contact Fran who will coordinate the event. We need to know the number of people attending in order to cater correctly. This is by popular demand – we have never before been asked repeatedly to hold an event as we have for this one! Pictures available here
Friday 25^th March Visit to Morgan Cars – Malvern	£10 entrance per person plus transport. Coach £12 per person The company celebrated its centenary year in 2009. The cars are hand built and quintessentially English. If you ordered one of their cars some time ago, you could chase them on delivery! There is a purpose built visitor centre which houses a Museum with memorabilia, photographs, films and a gift shop.

Saturday 12^th February 7.30 p.m. The Social event of the decade! Pictures from the night available here	Mad Jocks and Englishmen and the Valentine Bash. This year to be held at the luxurious Westley Hotel in Westley Road. Practice for 'Strictly' – there's a huge dance floor. We have a raffle with some super prizes. Fox Hollies Green Neighbourhood Forum Next Meeting 7 p.m. Monday 7^th February – Oaklands Primary School Dolphin Lane	At this meeting there will be a representative from Birmingham City Council. This is your last chance for the next 15 years to voice your ideas and requirements for the area in which you live. Also you can inform the council of the policies you would like implemented for the good of your area. You will have the unique opportunity of questioning the Council spokesman on the future policies and whether the proposed plans incorporate people's requirements.
Celebration of Harvest Festival Saturday 28^th August Tasty Dishes from our community	This is to be held in the back garden of 33 Hazelwood Road (Kath Watson’s House) on Saturday 28^th August 2010. We have in mind that people interested should prepare their favourite dish and bring it along for tasting by their neighbours. Participants should also contribute the recipe which we shall turn into a Hazelwood Recipe book. There will also be other items of interest incorporated into the day. We are hoping that people who grow their own fruit and vegetables could bring them along and we could have competitions for the best and possibly incorporate flower displays – any ideas would be greatly received. Entrance fee £3 for food tasting, and drinks (except for those preparing food) – all proceeds to charity. Coach trip to Trentham Garden Saturday 26^th June 2010 Cost for coach £9.50 each Entrance including Monkey Forest Adults £10.50 Children £7.50 Not including Monkey Forest Adults £6.75 Concessions £5.70 Children £5.20 - Contact Fran	We are organising a coach and will start out around 9 a.m. for a fun packed day. This visitor attraction comprises lots of interesting items. The main one being the restored Italianate Gardens originally designed for the Duke of Sutherland. New life has been breathed into this area using the expertise of the renowned garden designers Tom Stuart-Smith and Piet Oudolf. There is a large mile long lake which you can walk around and a Woodland Walk. In addition, there is a children’s play area. Another one of the main attractions is the Monkey Forest. Talking to people, it is loved by both children and adults. There are also shops and many other attractions - so something for everyone. You could even take a picnic!
Winterbourne House and Gardens Open Garden Day Sunday 20th June	Fran volunteers to help in the gardens here and is smitten with this place. We are so lucky to have such a jewel in our own city. The house was built in 1903 for the Nettlefold family of GKN fame and was given to Birmingham University in the 1940's. Three million pounds has recently been spent on the house to restore it to its original Arts and Crafts style. The garden is just breathtaking. A walled garden houses large Rose beds with perennials laid out geometrically. There are vegetable beds, perennial beds including Fuchsias and the National collection of Anthemis, a rock garden, a scree garden, an Orchid house, an Alpine House, a huge lake, chickens, and bees.

Saturday 17^th April 7.30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church Acocks Green	Elmdon Choral Society A concert performed by the Elmdon Choral Society featuring Patricia Jones, Patricia Gallagher, Liz Leach and George Gallagher (performing very differently from Mad Jocks and Englishmen) and Nigel and Sarah, all of Hazelwood Road. Sunday 24th May 2009	We are organising a trip to Blenheim Palace by coach. It is a beautiful house – Churchill’s birthplace near to the village of Woodstock. We could eat in their restaurant or we could take a picnic. Pricing is as follows – Adults £12.30, Concessions £10.80, Children £6.75 based on a minimum group booking of 15 people. This will be on the Bank Holiday Sunday and the reason we have chosen this date is to coincide with the Art Design and Taste of Summer Fair. You will see artists, designers, craftsmen and women, paintings, ceramics, furniture, jewellery and lots more, in addition to tastes of regional produce – cheese, chocolate, fruit. The price includes entrance to the palace, park and gardens.

Sunday 8th March 2009 12 noon	Inn on the Green: this is an event organised with CHECT the Children’s Eye Cancer Charity Trust and will commence at 12 noon and finish at 4 o’clock. Lunch and a game of Skittles will be provided at the Inn on the Green. The cost is £4 per head but we do need to know by 25^th February the number of people who will be coming along. Saturday July 19th 2008	Annual Summer Fete will be held from 12noon to about 4pm at 74 Hazelwood Road. Music will be provided by George Gallagher's Mad Jocks and Englishmen. We will also have children's entertainment which is always a big hit. There will be a grand raffle for charity for which we need prizes Cream teas and other attractions. Saturday June 7th 2008	Visit to Tatton Park: We start out at 8.00 am in a coach from Dogge Lane croft on Saturday 7^th June. The entrance fee of £5.00 will cover the house, garden and farm. There is no better time of year to go and see these beautiful gardens as the roses will just be coming into bloom and all the perennials will be coming through. The price for the coach will depend on how many people attend but will be approximately £12.00. Barbara Radford in Hazeltree Croft is a member of the National Trust and will happily take a guest in free of charge. Therefore, this person only needs to find the coach fare. We shall be calling in at the beautiful large village of Knutsford on the way up. This is full of interior décor and antique shops. Saturday 29th March 2008 7.30 pm	Quiz night at the Inn on the Green. Help Brendan turn his pub into an all-round community venue. This year's quiz night will support Whiz Kidz. Saturday 5th May 2007	We leave at 8 am, spending an hour or so in Tetbury so that those who like looking at antiques can have a look around the antique centres there and have a meal or some refreshments, if required, and then on to Dyrham Park, a Baroque style 17th century William and Mary mansion with elegant formal gardens calling in afterwards at Mumfords Vineyards where we shall look around the vineyard and then sit down to taste their five wines and feast on some snacks Coach £11 Wine tasting and snacks £6 Non- National Trust members £8.10 Full report here
