Quiz for Whizz Kids – Organised by  Hazelwood Residents’ Association

Another resounding success for this long established Residents Association

This event was a charity fund raising event for Whizz Kids a charity which puts disabled youngsters into wheelchairs.

It was held at the Inn on the Green, a rejuvenated pub/restaurant in Acocks Green centre. 76 people turned out for the night’s entertainment.

Competition was fierce - strong contenders were resisting the owner Brendon’s real ale from Hereford for fear of being knocked out.

The quizmaster was Ian Sandy a local impresario who organises shows at the Hippodrome and concerts in the open air in summer.  He has also featured on stage and screen and is full of fun and wit.

Whizz-Kidz is all about giving disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play.

By providing them with customised mobility equipment, training, advice and life skills, we actually give them something much more important; the independence to be themselves. We make an immediate and life changing difference to their lives and their families.

His questions were varied with popular music from the sixties onwards, general knowledge, television and our super city Birmingham.

The top scoring team ‘If Only’ gained 67 points out of a possible

100 but they cheated – they had five in their team – it’s a pity the guide dog couldn’t talk or else they would have been disqualified.

The bar staff were marvellous, bringing drinks to the tables all night.

A grand total of £150 was raised for this worthwhile cause, an addition to the many thousands of pounds which the Hazelwood Residents’ Association has raised over the years for charities.

Many thanks are due to Greg who organised the event for us.
